About Pulse & Plate

Pulse & Plate exists because shopping for home fitness gear is a mess of near-identical listings, buried specs, and “we tested 40 treadmills” roundups that rarely show their work. We do something narrower and, we think, more useful: we compile the published specifications, do the arithmetic buyers actually care about, and give a plain recommendation — including telling you when to skip something.

The name is a two-part promise. Plateis the strength side — dumbbells, kettlebells, racks, benches and bands. Pulse is the wearables side — trackers, smartwatches, and sleep and health monitors. Most sites are strong on one and thin on the other. We cover both, because a lot of people building a home routine are shopping for a squat rack and a heart-rate watch in the same month.

Who writes this

Pulse & Plate is written by Stephen V., a home-fitness enthusiast who reads spec sheets and owner reviews for fun. To be completely clear about what that means: Stephenis not a personal trainer, a physical therapist, or a physiologist, and nothing here is medical or training advice. What he brings is the habit of checking a manufacturer’s claim against the published numbers and saying so plainly when a product doesn’t hold up.

We think that’s a more honest pitch than a borrowed lab coat. The field is full of publishers claiming hands-on testing they can’t always prove. We haven’t tested this gear in a lab, and we say so — then we show the research we actually did. That’s the whole model.
